Heading  (2022)

At first glance, a large white sculptural object rotates in space. But on closer look, its form reveals the contours of a human figure—locked in a perpetual act of walking, endlessly stepping toward an undefined “somewhere.” Originating from Goto’s personal experience during the COVID-19 pandemic—when movement was restricted and daily rhythms suspended—the work reflects his realization that humans are inherently beings in motion: always in search of meaning, connection, or direction, even within confinement. In this work, the base of the sculpture takes the shape of a perfect dodecagon, echoing the face of a clock. This structural choice resonates with the title Heading, evoking both orientation and destination. The rotating sculpture continuously reveals the motion of the body, evoking the cyclical nature of time and a sense of direction. In our multifaceted modern world, the work invites viewers to ask: “Where are we walking now—and where are we headed?”
