In motion (2024)

In a darkened space, the silhouettes of walking figures emerge through light. This analog mechanism visualizes motion by projecting a line of light onto a rotating, mesh-like three-dimensional structure. The work depicts various patterns of walking—figures stepping in different directions, crossing paths, and exchanging places with one another. Throughout history, humanity has moved forward—walking, journeying, and shaping the fabric of our collective story. Every step carries inherited memories and layered time. Within this installation, those trajectories converge. As viewers enter and walk through the space, they themselves become part of this temporal and spatial intersection. In the unfolding now and the unknown future, where are we headed? What lies ahead—and whose stories will we carry forward? The figures in the work are modeled on real pedestrians filmed by Goto at intersections around the world.
