In motion (2024)

In a darkened space, the walking figures of people are illuminated by light. The mechanism is analog: the movement of walking is visualized by projecting linear light onto a rotating, mesh-like three-dimensional object. The artwork depicts various forms of walking, such as people stepping forward in different directions or exchanging places with others as they walk.Throughout history, humanity has taken steps forward, carving out new paths, traveling, and weaving the fabric of history. These steps contain inherited stories and layers of time. Within the space of this artwork, these elements intersect, and viewers become a part of this intersection as they walk through the installation. In the present and the future, where are we heading? What lies ahead, and what stories will unfold? The figures depicted in the work are based on real pedestrians captured by Goto at intersections around the world.
